This privacy policy (“Privacy Policy”) describes how Pillar Seven (Pty) Ltd (as owned and operated by the University of the Western Cape (“UWC”)) located at Robert Sobukwe Road, Bellville, Cape Town, 7535 (“Pillar Seven,” “we,” or “us”) collects, uses, and discloses information from and about you when you visit and use Ltd () and Pillar Seven’s associated websites, applications and virtual learning environments/online campus platforms (collectively, the “Websites”), as well as your ability to control specific uses of that information.
It also describes certain data protection rights that apply, subject to applicable law, including a right to object to some of the processing Pillar Seven carries out. More information about your rights, and how to exercise them, is set out in the document below.
1. Personal Information We Collect
Your device’s details, including your web browser, IP address, time zone, and certain cookies present on your device, are automatically collected upon accessing the Site. In addition, during your visit to the Site, we collect information regarding the individual web pages or products you view, the websites or search terms that referred you to the Site, and your interaction with the Site. The term “Device Information” is used to refer to the information that has been collected automatically.
In the event of an enrolment or attempted enrolment to a course on the Site, we will collect specific details from you, such as your name, billing address, shipping address, payment information (including credit card numbers), email address, and phone number. The information in question is commonly known as “Order Information.”
In this Privacy Policy, “Personal Information” encompasses Device Information and Order Information.
2. How We Use Your Personal Information
The Order Information that we collect fulfils orders placed through the Site, which includes processing payment information, arranging shipping, and providing invoices and/or order confirmations.
We use the Device Information that we collect to help us screen for potential risk and fraud (in particular, your IP address), and to improve and optimise our Site (for example, by generating analytics about how our customers browse and interact with the Site, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns).
3. Sharing Your Personal Information
Your Personal Information is shared with third parties to aid us in using it, as previously specified. For example, we use Google Analytics to help us understand how our customers use the Site.
Finally, we reserve the right to disclose your Personal Information to comply with applicable laws and regulations, respond to a subpoena, search warrant, or other lawful requests for information, or protect our legal rights.
4. Do Not Track
Please take note that we do not change our Site’s data collection and usage practices in response to a Do Not Track signal from your browser.
5. Children’s Privacy
We do not direct the Websites to, nor do we knowingly collect any personal information via the Websites from, children under the age of 16. If we reasonably determine that you are under 18, we only process your personal information with consent from your parent or legal guardian.
6. Data Retention
Your Order Information will be kept for our records upon placing an order through the Site, unless you make a request for its deletion.
7. Changes
We reserve the right to revise this privacy policy as needed to reflect changes in our practices or for other operational, legal, or regulatory reasons.

9. Your Rights
The Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (Act No. 2 of 2000) (PAIA) gives you the right to access any information held by by us that is required to exercise or protect any rights.
We have a manual that assists individuals seeking to request information from us, in compliance with PAIA, and we are dedicated to ensuring that our information practices conform to this legislation. The manual is available on request.
If you desire to request such information, kindly submit your request to our Information Officer. The requisitions must conform to the prerequisites stated in section 53 of the PAIA.
This comprises:
- Providing sufficient details to enable the Information Officer to identify:
o The record(s) requested;
o The requester (and if an agent is lodging the request, proof of capacity);
o The form of access required;
o The postal address or fax number of the requester in the Republic;
o Should the requester desire to receive notification of the decision through alternative
means, the specifics of such method and particulars shall be disclosed.
o The right which the requester is seeking to exercise or protect with an explanation of
the reason the record is required.
- Identifying the public body and the requester in accordance with section 53(1).
- Indicating which form of access is required if the request is granted.
- Specifying a postal address or fax number of the requester in the Republic.
- If the requester desires to be notified of the decision on the request through any means other than written, they must furnish the necessary particulars to facilitate such notification.
